How it works
Your Appointment*
*All appointments will continue via Zoom.
There are four steps in the appointment process for the student and their Parent(s)/Guardian:
Step 1: Review the website and ask any questions
Talk to us and determine whether this service is what you are looking for - it will naturally depend on what year your child is in.
Please submit the Contact Form
Step 2: Organise an appointment time
Please use the availability calendar to select the next available time and date that suits you and your student.
We like to get to know you so we will usually follow up by phone so we can get any additional information that you would like to share with us.
We then send you
A confirmation email with details of the appointment date and time (and an reminder to confirm the best email address for the Zoom invitation). There is also information on the IBAN and BIC for advance payment.
An an online link to fill out the Career Interest Profile at least 5 days before the appointment date.
Step 3: Student fills out the on line Career Interest Profile.
We use the Career Interest Profiling tool - which asks the students in advance (through multiple choice questions) about their areas of career interests and about their personality traits.
This profile is useful in exploring possible career areas and it informs rather than makes the decision about possible third level courses.
Step 4: The Appointment Day
All appointments are currently run via Zoom. Students are very familiar with zoom and feedback since March 2020 has been very positive).
Prior to the appointment time, the student or parent will have been sent a link to Zoom and on the appointment day the student meets with the Career Coach on their own for the first two hours via Zoom.
The appointment usually focuses first on exploring the student’s careers of interest and then we work together to identify possible third level choices.
Where appropriate, we look in detail at those choices to ensure that the student fully understands what they would be studying each year if they did select that course - and to avoid them not engaging with their course/campus during their first year of college.
Depending on the stage of the student, we also look at courses that are Levels 6/7 as well as those which are Level 8 are both these options are important in the CAO process. The student learns what tools to use to do this research themselves in the future.
Parent(s)/Guardian join us on Zoom during the appointment and there is a wrap up discussion between student, Parent(s)/Guardian and Coach on the outcomes of the session.. The parents also are made aware of the different Levels on the National Framework of Qualifications and we answer any further questions.
The goal at this stage is for the student to have greater clarity both around their future career and about possible future third level courses.
