Key Interview Tips
Doing a great interview when under pressure can be difficult …. no matter how experienced you are!
In addition to doing specific work for each interview, These are just some of the key things i ask my clients to think about
Research your company and your potential role
1. Find out as much as you can about the role and company.
2. Make sure your information is accurate and up to date – make sure you are keeping notes on any recent press releases
3. If possible, find out how many are on your interview panel – it allows you to be mentally prepared. It is also important to find who is interviewing you and their role in the company
Prepare to answer different types of Questions
1. Listen to the question you are being asked...stay relevant and on topic
2. If you forget the question you were asked... ask the interviewer to repeat the question. It is better than continuing on an irrelevant topic!
3. Be prepared to discuss gaps/career changes that are on your CV.
The Interview
1. Ensure you know exactly where the interview is taking place – many companies have a few different offices and you don’t want to turn up in the wrong location at the right time!
2. Ensure you have the appropriate clothes for the interview – at least three days in advance.
3. Know your CV in advance – make sure your memory matches the dates on your CV.
Leave with a good impression
1. Have a good question to end the interview with – don’t make it a standard question that all your competitors ask. Work on a creative question
2. No matter how the interview goes, shake each interviewers hand, - in a good firm grasp. Address each interviewer by name and walk out in the same confident manner that you entered the room
